Plenty of Auckland security companies will say they “cover” Hobsonville and Whenuapai. Our registered office is actually here on Karaka Road, Whenuapai — which is the one part of “local” that is easy to claim and hard to fake. We already know these streets: Hobsonville Point's new stages, the older pocket around Scott Road and Brigham Creek, West Harbour's cul-de-sacs.

Hobsonville Point and the newer parts of West Harbour are terraces, townhouses and apartments built close together, often on a body corporate title. Cable runs are short and tidy, but shared walls rule out some sensor placements, and body corporate rules can limit what goes on an exterior wall or a shared entry — worth checking before we quote. A wireless Ajax system is usually the straightforward answer. If you are still at pre-wire stage on a new build here, get the alarm and camera wiring designed in before the linings go on — it costs little extra built in and a lot more retrofitted.

The older brick-and-tile through Whenuapai and Massey is the easiest job in the book — cavity walls, tidy roof space, a wireless system goes in cleanly in a day. It is also where we most often find a tired old panel with no way to notify anyone if it goes off, which is money spent on something that still will not call for help. Worth a proper look rather than assuming it still does its job.

Out toward Riverhead, Taupaki and the rural fringe around Brigham Creek, the job changes again: sheds, implement bays, gates a long way from the house. That is usually where a wired Ajax Fibra backbone or long-range wireless earns its keep, because the distances defeat a system designed for a standard suburban section. Being based in Whenuapai means a fault call out this way is a short local trip, not a job scheduled around a trip across the city.
