What a commercial system actually costs
There is no honest flat rate for commercial security, and any Auckland company quoting one before they have seen your premises is guessing. A two-door retail shop and a distribution warehouse with a yard are different jobs, and the gap between them is not small. Compliance
CCTV, privacy and your insurer
Two things catch businesses out after an install, and both are far easier to handle before the cameras go up than after.
Privacy. CCTV footage of identifiable people is personal information under the Privacy Act 2020. In practice that means having a real reason for recording, making it obvious that you are — clear signage at the entrances — and keeping cameras out of places where people reasonably expect privacy, such as bathrooms, changing rooms and staff break areas. Footage needs to be stored securely and kept only as long as you actually need it, and a person can ask to see footage of themselves. The Office of the Privacy Commissioner publishes the full CCTV guidance, and we will flag where signage and camera angles matter during the site assessment. This is general guidance, not legal advice.
Insurance. Plenty of commercial policies say something specific about security — a monitored alarm, a particular alarm grade, or named areas that have to be covered — either as a condition of cover or as the basis of a discount. It is worth reading that wording before you buy anything. Send it to us with your quote request and we will design the system to meet it, then hand over the documentation once the install is signed off.

What's the difference between Ajax and Paradox alarms?
▾Ajax is a premium wireless system with an excellent app, photo verification and native CCTV & access control integration — best for businesses that want the most advanced system. Paradox is a proven hardwired commercial alarm panel that's been trusted for 30+ years — it's a great option when budget is the priority. We'll recommend the right one after seeing your site.
Do I need professional monitoring, or can I self-monitor?
▾Both options are available. Ajax and Paradox systems can both be self-monitored via smartphone app — you get instant alerts and can respond yourself. If you'd prefer a 24/7 monitoring centre to respond on your behalf (especially useful if you travel or have high-value premises), we can connect your system to a reputable NZ monitoring provider. This is an optional extra, not a requirement.
Can AJAX access control replace our existing key system?
▾Yes — Ajax access control can replace or supplement traditional key locks. We install smart readers or smart locks at your entry points, and staff use key fobs, PIN codes or their smartphone to enter. You manage all access remotely from your phone — issuing, restricting and revoking access without ever cutting a key.
What's the difference between Ajax cameras and TP-Link VIGI cameras?
▾Ajax cameras are ideal if you're already running (or planning) an Ajax alarm — they integrate natively so cameras and alarm work as one system in one app. When the alarm triggers, cameras capture photo/video automatically. TP-Link VIGI is a standalone CCTV system that's excellent value — 4K resolution, colour night vision and a clean app — but it operates independently from any alarm system.
How long does a commercial installation take?
▾Most small-to-medium commercial installations are completed in a single day. Larger multi-site or complex projects may take 2–3 days. We work to minimise disruption to your business — and wherever possible, we plan work around your trading hours. We won't leave until everything is installed, tested and you're confident using the system.
Do you service Dahua and Hikvision CCTV systems?
▾Yes — while our primary focus is TP-Link VIGI and Ajax for new installs, we can service, fault-find and expand existing Dahua and Hikvision CCTV systems. If you have an existing system that needs attention or you want more cameras added, get in touch and we'll take a look.
How much does a commercial security system cost in Auckland?
▾There is no flat rate. Cost is driven by the size of the site, how many entry points need detection, how many cameras you need and whether you want keyless access. A small retail alarm is a very different job from a multi-door warehouse with CCTV. We quote after seeing the premises, itemised, with no hidden fees.
Do I need signage if I install CCTV at my business?
▾Yes. Under the Privacy Act 2020 people need to know they are being recorded, so clear signage at the entrances is expected. Cameras also should not cover bathrooms, changing rooms or similar private spaces. We will point out where signage is needed, and where a camera angle is a problem, at the site assessment.
Can you secure more than one business site?
▾Yes. Ajax handles multiple premises in a single app, so you can arm, disarm and check any site from your phone. Each site keeps its own users and permissions, so a branch manager sees only their location while you see all of them.
Will my insurer accept the alarm you install?
▾Usually, but read your policy first. Some commercial policies name a required alarm grade, monitoring, or specific areas that must be covered. Send us the wording with your quote request and we will design the system to meet it, then give you the documentation at handover.
Can you install access control without an alarm?
▾Yes. Access control works on its own if all you want is to stop dealing with keys. That said, Ajax readers and smart locks integrate with an Ajax alarm, so if there is any chance you will add an alarm later it is worth planning both together from the start.
